Athletes looking to excel on the field or court need to prioritize improving their change of direction (COD) mechanics. While some athletes may focus on achieving straight line top end speed, the dynamics of the game and limited space for movement make it rare for athletes to reach their full velocity. Therefore, the ability to change direction quickly and efficiently becomes a critical factor in athletic performance, as the athlete with greater COD speed often wins the battle for the ball or positioning.
To achieve efficient and effective movement, athletes must prioritize proper technique and strengthening the positions required for optimal performance. This involves breaking down COD tasks into three primary phases: the deceleration phase, the planting phase, and the re-acceleration phase. By understanding and training the underlying mechanical requirements of these phases, athletes can greatly enhance their ability to change direction effectively. Without understanding movement mechanics, exercises like cone drills can become nothing more than a form of conditioning,
To improve movement mechanics and strengthen the positions necessary for optimal performance, the TMX SPORT SPEED program focuses on the three primary phases of COD tasks and other underlying mechanical requirements. The program aims to enhance an athlete's technical proficiency and physical capacity, leading to more efficient movement and injury prevention. This program is 60 minute sessions and can be done individually, with a partner or in a small group. By appointment only. For more information or to get started contact us today!
