TMX SPORTFIT – SPEED & MOVEMENT SKILLS

The TMX SportFit Training System provides a unified approach to athletic development built around movement quality, coordination, and transfer to sport performance. Strength, speed, mobility, and movement skills are trained as connected components of the same system rather than as isolated qualities. Each TMX SportFit program applies the same principles in different environments to ensure athletes develop physical qualities they can express when it matters most.


TMX SportFit – Speed & Movement Skills (Field / Court)

The TMX SportFit Speed & Movement Skills Program applies the TMX SportFit Training System to running-based movement performance for field and court sport athletes, while supporting general movement development and conditioning for hockey athletes. 


While straight-line speed is important, most sporting actions occur in limited space and at sub-maximal velocities. As a result, the ability to decelerate, change direction, and re-accelerate efficiently often determines success in competition.


Rather than chasing top-end speed in isolation, this program prioritizes movement efficiency and change of direction (COD) performance under game-relevant conditions. Athletes with superior COD mechanics are better positioned to win races to the ball, create separation, and maintain control during rapid transitions.


Depending on the sport and athlete, training may include acceleration, maximal velocity exposure, curvilinear running, lateral and crossover patterns, and elastic/reactive movement tasks. These elements are selected and progressed based on sport demands and athlete readiness, rather than applied as isolated drills. 


For hockey athletes, this program is used to support general movement development, conditioning, and force application rather than to replicate on-ice skating mechanics. For field and court sport athletes, training emphasizes running mechanics, posture, and force application specific to sprinting and multidirectional movement.


Change of direction tasks are broken down into three primary phases: deceleration, plant, and re-acceleration. Training focuses on the mechanical and coordinative demands of each phase so athletes learn to control speed, absorb force, and reapply force effectively. Without this mechanical understanding, common drills such as cone work can become conditioning tools rather than true movement development.

PROGRAM DETAILS

The TMX SportFit Speed & Movement Skills Program is designed to improve movement mechanics, positioning, and force application during sport-specific tasks. Training emphasizes technical proficiency, body control, and efficient transitions through deceleration and re-acceleration while reinforcing positions that reduce unnecessary stress on the body. This program applies and refines physical qualities developed through the TMX SportFit Strength & Power Development program to real sport movement.

GETTING STARTED

The result is an athlete who moves with greater efficiency, reacts more effectively under game conditions, and changes direction with confidence and control. Sessions are 60 minutes in length and can be completed individually, with a partner, or in small group settings. Training is by appointment only.
